New way to use drugs in plain sight
ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Ill. (KSDK) - NewsChannel 5 is exposing what could be the next big drug problem.
Deputies with the St. Clair County Sheriff's Department recently confiscated electronic cigarettes being used to smoke illegal drugs.
Deputies in Lincoln, St. Charles and St. Louis Counties are all aware of the problem but have yet to arrest anyone, due in part, to how well e-cigarettes conceal illegal drugs. The e-cigarette turns everything into an odorless vapor and drug users are capitalizing on it.
"They smoke everything that they can smoke through these e-cigarettes now," said St. Clair County Sheriff Richard Watson.
In a recent drug bust, St. Clair County Sheriff's Deputies also discovered a brand new drug hitting the streets that is smoked with an e-cigarette. The drug is called "Dab" and it's a green waxy substance made of concentrated THC, the ingredient in marijuana. Sheriff Watson says drug users put a dab of the substance on the end of an e-cigarette and get high.
"It's very easy to mask. If you look at it, it almost looks like a piece of chewing gum," Sheriff Watson said about the "Dab" drug.
The sheriff says the sly e-cigarette technique can allow someone to use drugs right in front of you and you'd never know it.
"I'm telling you this is new and this is something people need to be looking for," he said.
