Derek and Lucas Gamlin are brothers who share a passion not just for great food and drinks but for the Central West End. Over the years, they've opened three restaurants on the same street.
"We're here to support St. Louis as much as we possibly can," Derek said.
So it only makes sense their newest venture in the neighborhood, 1764 Public House celebrates the city they love.
Lucas said, "1764 was the year St. Louis was founded. It was founded by someone from New Orleans. We are sister cities with New Orleans."
1764 Public House gives customers a taste of both St. Louis and New Orleans.
"We wanted to take some St. Louis food items and some New Orleans food items and elevate them a little bit and give them a new twist at 1764."
To represent New Orleans, they serve tableside gumbo. And one of the dishes representing St. Louis is Famous Barr's French onion soup, a piece of St. Louis dining history. Some menu items represent both cities.
"We also have a crawfish toasted ravioli."
The Gamlin brothers other restaurants are located just down the street. Subzero Vodka Bar opened 13 years ago and then four years ago, they opened Gamlin Whiskey House.
On December 1st, the Gamlin brothers will be honored with The Polk Award from the Central West End Association for their contributions to the betterment of the neighborhood. They'll receive that award at a gala. Tickets are available at thecwe.org.
