D'Italia is one of the top online Italian specialty food retailers in the country

A hidden gem in The Grove

From the outside, it's a typical warehouse. But on the inside, you'll find some of the best ingredients from Italy to ever hit your tongue.

"Kinda a hidden gem. A lot of people don't realize this premier Italian food specialty business is here in the heart of The Grove in St. Louis," said Vince Di Piazza.

D'Italia Fine Italian Imports owner has tested hundreds of rare artisanal foods from Italy.

"Once or twice a year we go there. It's always an adventure," he said.

All of the delicious ingredients he finds in Italy are stored in this St. Louis warehouse, where online orders get packed and shipped to customers around the country.

St. Louisans can pick it up in person to avoid shipping costs.

"When you do a search for Italian foods online, we're coming up organically in top 5 results," he said.

The company was founded in 1985 by Vince's father, Sicilian immigrant Vincenzo Di Piazza. Though he's now retired, you can still find the 80-year-old cooking lunch for employees every day of the week. In 1997, Vincenzo's son took the company online, making it one of the first online marketplaces for Italian gift baskets and rare Italian specialties. Today, it's still a go-to destination for unique ingredients, gifts and holiday treats.
