Katie's Pizza & Pasta in Rock Hill is an award-winning artisan Italian restaurant where there's passion behind every plate.
Katie Collier said, "I got to grow up going to Italy. My mother ran the study abroad program in Florence. We'd go live with her and that's when I fell in love with regional ingredients, passing recipes along, cooking in your home, cooking with family."
Owner and executive chef Katie Collier has a lot cooking lately.
"We're opening our second Katie's Pizza and Pasta in 30 days in Town and Country," she said.
And that's not all that's new.
Katie said, "We just launched Vero pizza and pasta which is a meal kit company."
You can now make many of the same dishes served in her restaurant, like the fresh artichoke bucatini and the fig and prosciutto pizza, in the comfort of your home.
"The idea is not to have everything for ourselves but to spread the love of food and collaboration of cooking with other people," she said.
Speaking of spreading the love, Vero is more than a meal kit.
"Every time you buy a Vero kit, we donate an emergency meal to a St. Louis child in need through Operation Food Search," she said.
The kit itself includes a pizza and pasta recipe with all the ingredients packed in a box, delivered to their doorstep.
She said, "We give enough ingredients for two 12-inch pizzas and big bowl of pasta. The idea is you can have meals for the week if you are just a couple or family of three and if you have a large family, it's enough for a big Italian meal, so it breaks down to $9 or $10 a person."
Vero meal kits are available within a 50 mile radius of St.Louis for now, but that will change in the coming months when the kits roll out nationwide.
Katie said, "We're getting calls and emails from people all over the country."
So be the first to try Vero and take it from me, your taste buds will thank you.
