ST. LOUIS – On April 11 NewsChannel 5's Nichole Berlie and Sara Dayley will participate in the Go! St. Louis 5K race through Forest Park. Their participation is part of a campaign by the "TODAY" show called #RunForToday.
Ahead of the race, we're focusing on women, running, and empowerment, so we caught up with two runners at Forest Park.
They're friends, co-workers, and running partners. They like to "runch," which is their term for running on their lunch break.
Stacy Austerman and Laura Roeseler are both wives and full-time moms, and they say running has made a positive difference in their lives.
"When I cross a finish line I feel empowered. I feel like I can apply that to every part of my life I'm a stronger person because I run," said Austerman.
"And I would echo that. Running has given me confidence I was lacking in other areas of my life, professionally and personally, and when I did my first 10K, crossed the finish line, and felt like superwoman, and I can tell you I've only felt like that two other times in my life and that's when I gave birth to my boys," said Roeseler.
Both Austerman and Roeseler say running has improved their overall well-being physically, mentally, and emotionally.
Be sure to pledge your support for Nichole and Sara. It's free, and if you want, you can sign up to run the race too!
