Dog gets adopted after waiting 809 days at St. Louis area shelter

"They say good things come to those who wait and Demi now has a place to call her forever home!"

MONROE COUNTY, Ill. — A St. Louis area shelter dog has finally found her forever home.

Helping Strays of Monroe County shared the good news on its Facebook page Sunday afternoon. The shelter said Demi has waited 809 days to get adopted.

“Today was a LONG time in the making - Demi finally found her forever home with Arland after 809 days at the shelter,” the shelter wrote.

The shelter said Demi is a sweet girl with “specific home needs” and Arland is able to provide that for her.

"They say good things come to those who wait and Demi now has a place to call her forever home!" the shelter wrote.

Last month, we told you about a dog named Wiggles who had spent 11 years at a local shelter.

Wiggles first came to 5A's Animal Shelter in 2010 and had been there ever since. Over the years, the shelter made multiple posts on social media in hopes of finding her a home, but she kept getting overlooked.

After seeing our story, Wiggles' new owners, and many others, called the shelter to ask about adopting her. Her new owners live in Lake St. Louis and the shelter's director, Rick Jun, said they are a great fit.
