ALTON, Ill. – A Metro East church seems to have the golden touch.

Thanks to some incredible donations, church members are helping the Salvation Army in Alton with its holiday fundraising goal.

In searching through the kettle after a shift, one group of volunteers struck gold not once, but twice. They found a gold American Eagle coin and a Mexican Cinco Peso worth a combined $270 dollars.

The gold coins have boosted the group toward their goal of $90,000. They are hoping to exceed that goal, but they're hovering around $45,000 right now.

If you would like to help the group by volunteering your time, you can sign up here.
