'My new normal' | After Tripp Halstead's death, a mother slowly moves forward

The mother dealing with the sudden death of her inspirational little boy pens an open letter to her family's supporters and details her road ahead.

It's only been a few days since Tripp Halstead's family shared the disheartening news: The young man who had touched so many lives had died.

Since his funeral, Tripp's mom has been on an emotional journey - taking the first steps in her life as a mother without him. On Monday, she shared what that's like with over 1.4 million followers on Facebook.

"So many things I want to write but I just can't yet," she said. "So many people I need to thank but I can't form the words."

She said her first plan is to take time away for a few days and stay away from her phone for a few days.

"We are going to relax and sleep and sleep and sleep and I'm going off the grid till we get back," she said.

Stacy said she doesn't know how to feel after Tripp's death - a young boy who, despite receiving severe brain injuries from a tree fall years before, was just starting school. He was a face familiar to many who were on social media - especially here in Georgia.

His trips, his ups and downs - and his smile - became a fixture of many lives as Stacy gave updates on his sicknesses and triumphs.

Sadly, one sickness became too much for the little boy. He died on March 15. His funeral was held in the days that followed. From there, Stacy shared a photo with her latest update.

It showed several stuffed animals around a small urn so that they could have him "near his favorite things."

She promised to provide updates on the family as they transition into their new life.

"My new normal will start soon and I don't know how I'm going to be," she said.

The support has been constant since that fateful day that young Tripp was first injured and the group has only grown over the years showing support in any way they can. It's an extended family that touched a family on their toughest days and still means so much as they mourn.

"I actually left the house today to check the mail and it was already overflowing with cards," Stacy said. "Thank you. I will cherish every single one."

She added that she's kept every single one since the day of the accident. Those may offer some comfort as they take on the next part of this new path in life.

"Tripp has so much stuff so we will be going through everything slowly," Stacy said. "We will be donating to multiple charities and organizations."

Her hope is to pass on some of their equipment to children like Tripp. Some items will be given away and others sold. It's a transformation in their lives that will leave the rooms of their home very different.

"We are ready to simplify," she said.

Away will go so many things - each bringing to mind another moment with little Tripp. But while those items might go away, this family's memories of Tripp will last. And his impact on the world around him will never be forgotten.

"Love you sweet boy," Stacy said.
