California-based health care staffing firm CEP America is terminating contracts with Memorial Hospital after Memorial chose another firm to provide emergency department doctors at its hospitals in both Belleville and Shiloh, Illinois.

Memorial's contract with CEP for emergency department physician coverage expires at the end of 2017, and Memorial decided to transition those services to Knoxville, Tennessee-based TeamHealth when the contract ends. Memorial, which opened its new Memorial Hospital East satellite facility in Shiloh last year, has worked with CEP since 2012.

CEP then notified the hospital last week that it was terminating its contracts with Memorial for hospitalists and intensivist services as of Feb. 8, according to Memorial spokeswoman Anne Thomure. Hospitalists are physicians who care for hospitalized patients, while intensivists are doctors who specialize in critical care medicine.
