Brentwood man carjacked in Central West End Saturday morning

Police have not released any details about the suspects. However, they were able to track down and recover his car in East St. Louis.

ST. LOUIS — An investigation is underway after a carjacking in the Central West End neighborhood early Saturday morning.

Around 2 a.m., two people stole a man's car at gun point on West Pine near Vandeventer, according to the Central West End Security Initiative.

Brett Olson said he was sitting in his car in front his friend's apartment on West Pine.

He said he was waiting for his friend to come outside. While he was sitting there, he was looking at his phone while his windows were down and not really paying attention to his surroundings.

That’s when two men walked up to his car and pointed a gun at him. He said the men hit him in the head with the butt of the weapon and told him to get out of his BMW.

“They were just on the street. The other ran around to the passenger side really quick got in before I was even out of the car and once I got out the other guy got in and they were off,” Olsen said. “I could barely talk. I was shaky. It was an intense feeling.”

Despite Olsen’s frightening ordeal, he said he’s not going to let the incident make him live in fear.

"It's St. Louis. I mean that stuff happens. They win if you get scared to go back,” he said.

Police have not released any details about the suspects. However, they were able to track down and recover his car in East St. Louis.
