Officers say the child was shot in the stomach by another 13-year-old boy. When he was taken to the hospital, he was conscious and breathing.

It happened in the 5900 block of Lalite Avenue just before 5 p.m., which is near Northwest Academy of Law High School.

Police said there was a group of young men in the home when the gun was fired. One of the people in the home had the gun that fired the shot. The 13-year-old suspect, who is known to the victim fled the from the home. There were no parents in the home at the time of the shooting.

Better Family Life was throwing an anti-violence rally at that high school on Wednesday. The organization was working to prevent violence in the community by encouraging anyone who knows of a conflict to visit one of its de-escalation centers. That event wrapped up just a couple hours before the shooting.
