'Brutal and senseless': 2 suspects charged for fatal stabbing of father, son

Officers found the 20-year-old suspect at a motel in north St. Louis early Friday morning with a female 21-year-old accomplice.

MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. – Two suspects are in custody after a father and son were found stabbed to death at a house on Thursday night, with two others in critical conditions.

Officers found 20-year-old Traveon M. Sims at a motel in north St. Louis early Friday morning with 21-year-old Onyai Turner.

Sims is charged with two counts of first degree murder, two counts of first degree assault and four counts of armed criminal action. He was on parole for a second degree robbery in 2015.

Turner is charged with one count of first degree murder and one count of armed criminal action.

The victims of the stabbing are identified as 33-year-old Malcom B. Mathis II and 22-month-old Malcom B. Mathis III.

The two victims in the hospital are Mathis' 57-year-old aunt and 4 year-old daughter. Mathis' aunt is in critical but stable condition. Mathis' daughter is in critical condition and went back into surgery Friday morning.

According to Maryland Heights PD, the suspect is Mathis' nephew, who stayed with the family before being kicked out 6 to 8 months ago.

The stabbing happened on the 12400 block of Marine Avenue at around 8:05 p.m. on Thursday.
