Clayton jewelry store robbed at gunpoint

Police are looking for this man wanted in connection with an armed robbery of a Clayton jewelry store.

CLAYTON, Mo. – Another St. Louis County jewelry store was robbed Thursday morning.

St. Louis County police said they were called about a robbery at The Diamond Shop on North Central Avenue at around 10:30. Employees told police a man in his 30s or 40s was browsing the store when he pulled out a gun and announced a robbery.

The store owner said he took jewelry and some cash and ran off. No customers were in the store at the time, and no employees were injured.

According to the posting on the CrimeStoppers website, the man was picked up by an accomplice in a newer model Hyundai Azera.

Police said the man was wearing a red hoodie, light pants, dark shoes and a Chicago Bulls hat. He was carrying a Michael Kors, canvas-colored backpack.

This is at least the fourth jewelry store robbery in the St. Louis area this year. They are offering a $1,000 reward.

In February, suspects shot and killed the owner's dog while robbing Timekeepers on Olive Boulevard. Then, a few weeks ago, two Creve Coeur jewelry stores were robbed less than 24 hours apart. Police found the truck used in one of the crimes, but have not caught the suspects.

Earlier this week, suspects broke into a jewelry store in downtown St. Louis. They were unable to steal anything because all the merchandise had been locked away.
