Coroner: WWII veteran found dead after fire died from blow to head

St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr. said Howard Sutton, who was found dead after an October fire, was killed by blunt force trauma to the head.
Howard Sutton, 89, was killed in a house fire overnight Wednesday.

The death of a World War II veteran found after a house fire is now being investigated as a homicide after the coroner found he was killed by blunt force trauma.

St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr. said Howard Sutton, who was found dead after an October fire, was killed by blunt force trauma to the head.

A few days after the fire, the Major Case Squad was activated to investigate. Investigators told Sutton's family he died before the fire, and an accelerant was possibly used in the kitchen of the home.
