‘I murdered my father’ | Lincoln Co. man charged in father’s death

He said he had been in a fight with his father and stabbed him once in the neck.

ELSBERRY, Mo. – A 23-year-old man has been charged in the death of his 53-year-old father.

Detectives with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office began investigating a homicide along the 700 block of Lincoln Street on March 17.

According to police, Brandon Spies frantically banged on the police department’s door for an officer and told an officer he murdered his father. He said he had been in a fight with his father and stabbed him once in the neck.

A bloody seven-inch bladed knife was found in the home. 53-year-old Richard Spies was pronounced dead at the scene.

Spies is charged with second-degree murder and Armed Criminal Action. He’s currently in the Lincoln County jail with a $500,000 cash-only bond.
