'I wasn't going to leave him' | Witness talks about helping officer Langsdorf after shooting

Officer Langsdorf leaves behind two children and his fiance.

ST. LOUIS — For the first time, we're hearing from the people inside the Wellston Food Market, who came to the officer's aid.

It's a day Lucretia Johnson will never forget.

"I was just with the officer and I just kept telling him to stay with me I just need you to fight and I'm not going to leave you I'm right here," said Johnson.

She's talking about North County Officer Michael Langsdorf who was shot and killed in front of Lucretia and her friend Sunday afternoon at Wellston Market in North County.

"He came here for a bad check, a bad check," said Johnson.

Police said 26-year-old Bonette Meeks confessed to getting into a struggle and then shooting Officer Langsdorf.

Officers thanked Lucretia and her friend for trying to help save Langsdorf's life.

"She went to Officer Langsdorf's aide and tried to stop the bleeding and grabbed his walkie talkie and radioed on it, 'You've got a policeman shot you've got a policeman down,'" explained North County Co-op Major Ron Martin.

"We really wanted him to live and it wasn't until we got to the police station not too long after that I asked how he was and they told me he passed and that he had two kids," said Johnson.

"We did everything that we could I promise and we wasn't going to leave him," added Johnson.
