A teacher at South Central High School in Farina, Illinois, was charged Tuesday with sending nude pictures of herself to a student under the age of 18.

Sian Kuester, 36, was charged with one count of felony distribution of harmful material by Matthew Wilzbach, the State's Attorney of Marion County.

According to charging documents, Kuester sent the student nude photos and a video throughout 2016.

Kerry Herdes, the superintendent of South Central High School, provided the following statement in response to the charge:

  1. As soon as allegations came to our attention, we contacted law enforcement and took steps to suspend the teacher in question. The teacher has not returned to work since we learned that the Marion County Sheriff's office was conducting an investigation.
  2. We are cooperating fully with the Marion County Sheriff’s Department, and anyone with information pertinent to the investigation should contact the sheriff’s department
  3. The teacher in question has been suspended pending completion of the charges filed against her.

Wilzbach said Kuester has a pending court date on Nov. 29.
