COTTAGE HILLS, Ill. — The Major Case Squad was activated in Cottage Hills early Friday morning after a man was shot and killed during an apparent home invasion.

Upon arrival, deputies found 24-year-old Damian Huber shot in the chest. He was transported to the hospital where he later died.

The Madison County Sheriff's Office requested the assistance of the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis shortly after 7 a.m.

The Major Case Squad is calling it a home invasion, and a detective told 5 On Your Side Huber did nothing wrong.

One of Huber's friends ran to a neighbor’s house, banging on the door asking for help. That neighbor's daughter is a nurse, so she went to the scene to try to help.

But there was nothing anyone could do.

His mom told 5 On Your Side he was a good kid who was getting his life together. She’s asking anyone with information to come forward and bring her son justice.

Anyone with any information should contact the Major Case Squad at 618-296-5544.
