A man was arrested and charged with sexual assault in connection with an incident earlier this month.

According to a press release from the Shiloh Police Department, Christian Christmas was taken into custody Monday by Shiloh Police with the help of Southern Illinois Edwardsville Police.

Police said a woman met with them on Oct. 4, where she said she was sexually assaulted in Belleville, Illinois, two days earlier. She said she invited Christmas, whom she described as an acquaintance, over to her home. The victim said she was sexually assaulted by Christmas "during a time she was unable to give knowing consent."

Sergeant Jesse Phillips of the Shiloh Police Department said both Christmas and the victim frequent the SIUE area and are connected to the university.

Christmas, 22, was charged with criminal sexual assault. His bond was set at $75,000, and is being held at the St. Clair County Jail.
