A 21-year-old man who pointed a gun at police died Monday afternoon after he was involved in a crash and shot by a police officer in north St. Louis.
It happened in the 4500 block of Page at around 12:30. The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department said two officers in a marked police car were following a stolen car with three people inside when the car took off.
While fleeing, one of the tires went flat and the car flipped. As officers approached the car, the driver pointed a gun at officers. One officer fired between four and six shots, hitting the driver one time.
The 21-year-old, identified as Davion Henderson, was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police are awaiting the results of an autopsy to see if he died as a result of the crash or the shooting.
The two other suspects — a 16-year-old and a 23-year-old — were not shot. They suffered minor injuries from the car crash and were taken into custody.
Officers said they recovered two guns from inside the car. The 23-year-old was on probation at the time of the incident.
According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, no officers were injured. The officer who fired shots is a has been with the department for five years.
The nearby Ranken campus was placed on lockdown when the car hit a building near the campus. No students or employees were injured, and the lockdown has since been lifted.
The investigation is ongoing.
