Normandy police warning against 'Letgo' app after robberies

The police department tweeted the warning Sunday night.

NORMANDY, Mo. – The Normandy Police Department is urging residents to avoid using the app 'Letgo' to purchase electronics after multiple robbery reports.

The police department tweeted the warning Sunday night.

In one case over the weekend, police said a man was shot when he showed up to buy an iPhone 10. It happened on Sunday around 6:30 p.m. in the parking lot at Bermuda Elementary School in Normandy.

Police said on Saturday at that same location just before 5 p.m., they responded to a robbery where a man had $250 taken from him after he also tried to purchase an iPhone 10.

Throughout the weekend there were two other similar robberies in the same area.

In each incident, the victims were robbed at gun point trying to purchase electronics after meeting the alleged seller online.

Police said in three of the incidents, thieves lured victims in by using 'Letgo.' In the other one they lured them in through a buy and sell page on Facebook.

Officers said these dangerous incidents might have been prevented if people agreed to meet in a safer location.

Areas like police stations or anywhere with surveillance could be considered a safer location for anyone who intends to continue buying or selling through online apps.

Police said they have a reason to believe the robberies could be related, however the incidents are still under investigation.
