St. Ann mother warns about possible attempted abduction

The teenager made it about a block when a man in a black or gray car rolled down his window and asked the girl to get in the car. When she refused, he continued to try to lure her in his car.

ST. ANN, Mo. — Parents in St. Ann are fearful for their kids' safety after yet another possible attempted abduction. A mother said a suspicious man approached her daughter just a few feet from the bus stop.

The 16-year-old girl got off the bus at a church on Ridgecrest Drive. Her parents said she took the late bus home from Pattonville High School and arrived at their neighborhood around 5:45 pm.

The teenager made it about a block when a man in a black or gray car rolled down his window and asked the girl to get in the car. When she refused, he continued to try to lure her in his car.

The teenager's mother, Lisa Hughes, said the stranger was offering to drive her home in the cold weather. Hughes added that he only drove away when another neighbor walking his dog got close to the car, supposedly spooking the man.

The situation has left Hughes terrified.

“I don’t know if this is somebody in the neighborhood, I don’t know if this was a stranger just passing through. I don’t know if he’s been watching her or if he’s going to go find another kid. I don’t know. It’s very scary,” said Lisa Hughes.

While the young lady did a lot of things right, police said, they wish she had called 911 immediately so they could have sent a patrol car out to search the neighborhood.

The teen was not able to get a good description of the man in question.

Nearby, the Ritenour School District has already had four stranger danger reports filed this school year. The most recent incident happened last month when a man dressed as Santa asked two elementary students to get in the car with him.
