ST. LOUIS — A man was arrested and charged Tuesday after police said he stole a tool worth $1,500 from a Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District trailer.

Carlos Jerel Lockett, 44, was charged with stealing of $750 or more in connection with the Tuesday incident.

Police said they were called to an MSD job site near the intersection of Aldine and North Spring Avenues in north St. Louis. When the officers arrived, Two MSD employees said they heard a commotion coming from their trailer. When the employees went to see what was going on, they said they saw a man walking away with their new, multi-purpose saw. They said the tool was worth $1,500.

The men told the officers which way the man headed, and one of the officers headed in that direction. He was flagged down by employees at an auto parts store on Cass Avenue who said Lockett was in their store and had the new saw.

Police took Lockett into custody Tuesday. He was charged a short time later.

According to the probable cause statement, Lockett was found guilty of burglary or stealing three times since 2006 and currently has a pending burglary charge in the court system.
