Two men were charged Friday in connection to the death of a man found in the trunk of an SUV near Desloge, Missouri, Thursday morning.

According to charging documents, Anthony Caruthers, 27, and Jeremy Reed, 37, are facing charges in connection with the incident.

According to the charging documents, 46-year-old Michael Vanstavern was found in the back of his Porche SUV after a police pursuit of the car ended in a crash in near Desloge, Missouri, Thursday morning.

Reed was a passenger in the car at the time of the crash, and after trying to run, he was taken into custody.

During his interview with police, Reed said Caruthers killed Vanstavern at the Red Cedar Lodge on Highway 67 on Tuesday. Reed topld police Caruthers called him and said he needed help with something. Caruthers then drove Vanstavern's SUV to pick up Reed in Park Hills.

On the way back to the Red Cedar Lodge, Caruthers told Reed how he killed Vanstavern, Reed said in his interview with police. Reed and Caruthers entered room 14, where Vanstavern's dead body was under the mattress.

Reed said he and Caruthers bought some supplies to hide the body as they loaded it into the back of the SUV. After leaving the lodge, Reed said the men drove to Vanstavern's home in Farmington, where they took some things that Caruthers unsuccessfully tried to pawn.

Reed told police he had some of Vanstavern's property at his house. He is facing one count of felony burglary and one count of tampering with physical evidence.

Caruthers is facing the same counts as Reed, as well as one count of first-degree murder and one count of armed criminal action.
