Undercover officers at the St. Clair Square Mall nabbed a would-be thief in the act Tuesday.
According to a press release from the Fairview Heights Police Department, the person tried to grab some clothes from Dillard's and run off but was caught by police.
Police said the suspect is also suspected in five other grab-and-run thefts from other stores where thousands of dollars of merchandise were taken. A getaway vehicle used in the other thefts was seen last night but drove off when the suspect was being arrested.
The suspect is in custody. He has not been charged.
