EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – A Cottage Hills, Ill. woman is accused of beating her boyfriend with a baseball bat.

Kelsey D. Proffer, 23, is charged with aggravated battery and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

A deputy with the Madison County Sheriff's Office were called to 9th Street and Stanley Road shortly before noon Saturday for a report of a domestic disturbance. When he arrived he found an abandoned vehicle with the back window busted out.

An area resident directed the deputy to a ditch near the 1400 block of 9th Street and told him a woman was beating a man with a baseball bat.

The woman was identified as Proffer, and the male as her boyfriend, who was bleeding from his nose and head. He refused medical attention. A wooden baseball bat was found at the scene.

Deputies determined proffer bashed in the rear window of her boyfriend's vehicle with the bat, and hit him in the bead.

Proffer was taken into custody at the scene and taken to the Madison County Jail. Tablets of alprazolam were seized from her during the booking process.

Bond is set at $40,000.
