Small Business Saturday had a very special meaning for four local stores at West County Center.
It's Geranium's turn to be in the spotlight.
"I love all the different stuff they have, it's always different from like regular store," said shopper Rachel Dake.
The woman's boutique is among the few retail stores in West County Center participating in Small Business Saturday.
"It's sort of like the hidden gem. We don't do a lot of advertising, so a lot of people still don't know we're here," said Geranium's manager Lauren Riegler.
However, since opening its doors three years ago, staffers said they've had no problem drawing in regular customers and standing out from other chains stores in the mall.
"I love the personal touch with customers like just being able to call them by name or recognize their purchase next time they come in there," Riegler said.
Just downstairs at another locally owned store, Sweet and Sassy, the special salon for young girls and tweens is giving discounts on haircuts and room decor.
"Everyone starts somewhere, and supporting small business from the bottom up supports the community," said shopper Amber Cook.
"We work really hard and we're always trying to sell because not every day is a great day," said Sweet and Sassy worker Izzy Colon.
It's the main reason why staffers at My Room Rocks say they heavily rely on Small Business Saturday.
"To make sure that we get enough so that her business can keep going unlike a lot of bigger corporations, they make tons," Colon said.
"When people shop in their community, they're really giving back to their community," Riegler said.
The four local stores in West County Mall are Geranium, Sweet and Sassy, My Room Rocks, and Di Olivas.
All stores are open from 10 a.m. through 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. through 10 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. 10 p.m. on Saturday's, and 11 a.m. through 7 p.m. on Sunday's.
