HIGHLAND, Ill. — One person was killed in a fatal car crash in Highland early Friday morning, first responders said.
The Highland-Pierron Fire Protection District said that around 5:45 a.m., a car crash at U.S. Highway 40 at Kennedy Lane killed one person. 5 On Your Side crews spotted a pickup truck torn in half with its debris spread across the roadway.
Highway 40 was subsequently closed in both directions from Kennedy Lane to Motel Road while investigators cleaned up the scene.
The highway is expected to be shut down for several hours.
