Sean Wade is back in St. Louis after spending several days in Texas helping a child who was bullied.

"So many kids need help and my passion is so great to get out and help them," Wade said.

Wade, a reserve police officer for Kinloch, is part of a nonprofit in St. Louis called Team Bully Response Squad.

It's comprised of law enforcement officers and former World Champion MMA fighter, Jermaine Andre. The men consider their work to be lifesaving at times.

"Main thing is showing these kids that they have value. We're coming, and that is going to show you how important you are," Andre said.

Since the team started four years ago, the organization has traveled to six states to help a child being bullied.

"I'd rather plan an intervention, rather than planning a funeral," Wade said.

TBRS receives cries for help from desperate parents on its Facebook page.

"We get messages all the way from the Philippines," Wade said.

Before hitting the road, the group learns about the child's situation and comes up with ways they can help.

"Bullying is a vicious cycle. It tears them down. We look at how we can build them back up," Wade said.

That building process starts with hosting anti-bullying events at parks and schools in the city they're visiting. They also provide the victim's family with items they may need, such as new shoes or beds; anything to make a child's future a little brighter

"When I see a kid who's like this (head down), come up and smile and we made them feel like you mean something, you got value, you can't touch that feeling, it's the best feeling in the world," Andre said.

TBRS collects donations to help with travel expenses, but Wade said about 85 percent of the costs come out of their own pockets.

"We are never going to let money dictate who gets help or not. If we have to go out of town on pennies to lift or save a life, we are going to do that," Wade said.
