A St. Louis alderman is the latest to announce his candidacy for the mayor of the city of St. Louis.

In a statement, Jeffrey Boyd, alderman of the 22nd Ward, vowed to "create a work environment for city employees that rewards excellence, encourages innovation and invites participation in the process of good government."

Boyd has served as an alderman for nearly 14 years. Before that, he worked in the United States Army for over 23 years. He holds a master's degree in business administration from Fontbonne University.

He's hoping to replace Francis Slay, who has held the office nearly 16 years.
