An unmarked cardboard box left near the Edwardsville Post Office led to a suspicious package investigation Tuesday morning.

The box was left unattended near the post office on Kansas Street at around 10 a.m. Tuesday. Police said the box did not have any markings that indicated it was a package for U.S. mail, so officers called in the Secretary of State Police Bomb Squad(SOS) and closed off nearby roads.

When the SOS arrived, they used a bomb robot to remove the device — a Cisco Gainmaker broadband amplifier — from the box. After finding out the package contained no dangerous devices, the area was reopened and the package was turned over to the U.S. Postal Service.
