The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department is investigating after a 5-year-old boy was shot in a car in the 2500 block of North Grand. He was taken to a local hospital and is listed in stable condition.

The call came out just before 1 p.m.

The victim's 27-year-old mother says she was parked near a business waiting for her boyfriend when she heard gunshots.

That's when she realized her son, who was in the backseat, had a gunshot wound to the side of his face. Three other young children were in the car at the time, but none of them were injured.

The mother drove the child to the hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

Police say the mother, her boyfriend and witnesses all gave conflicting accounts of the incident.

An investigation is underway.
