ST. LOUIS COUNTY – A potential big break in a cold case nearly a year and half old.

Police say they got a helpful tip after we aired a True Crime Cover story on the murder of Maleaha Talton. The Ferguson teenager was shot in the head and left on the Ted Jones Trail.

Her body was found in November of 2016. Talton's mom says her daughter was dating a man named Evander Thompson when she was killed. Detectives said he has been the only person of interest in the case, but he's been on the run ever since Maleaha’s murder.

Ferguson Police Chief Delrish Moss said 5 On Your Side's True Crime cover story lead to a recent spike in tips. Moss encouraged people to not give up hope on cold cases.

“Homicide detectives meet the victim’s family, they get with the family, they become a part of wanting to make sure their case is solved, so we never give up.”

Evander was found on Saturday at an apartment in Hazelwood. He is being held at the Buzz Westfall Justice Center in Clayton. He has not been charged. Murder warrants will be filed for him tomorrow.

Maleaha's mom, Tirria Blanks, says this has brought her some closure.

"A part of me is OK now, God taught me one thing, to have patience."
