The City of Des Peres is considering a proposal that would allow home construction crews to get an earlier start.

The Home Builders Association of St. Louis and Eastern Missouri asked the city to change the start time to 7 a.m., an hour earlier than the current law.

The earlier start time would increase productivity and also make the workers' commute shorter, according to Jim Brennan, President of McKelvey Homes.

However, some residents say the earlier start time is disruptive, and a safety issue for children walking to school. They voiced concerns at a public hearing last month.

The City of Des Peres will conduct another hearing on Nov. 14, and make a decision by the end of the year.
