ST. LOUIS COUNTY – Teachers in Francis Howell rejected the school board's latest contract offer for next school year.

Earlier this month, St. Charles County voters shot down "Proposition learn." The 48 cent tax increase would have paid for several things, including a pay raise for teachers.

Teachers say the problem has been going on for too long and want a pay increase. But the school board says they just don't have the money.

Teachers in Missouri cannot strike. The union says they'll still be teaching the kids, but they won't be doing anything extra, things they don't get paid for.

Neither side would go into details of the contract that was shot down Thursday. The board will hold another meeting on May 3.

Teachers hope to be able to renegotiate before then.
