Shooting on I-270 in St. Louis County leaves 1 dead, 2 injured

Two vehicles were involved in a "rolling dispute" when the shooting happened, police said

ST. LOUIS — One person was killed, and two others were injured in a shooting that also resulted in a crash Friday night.

The incident happened after 8 p.m. near New Halls Ferry Road on eastbound I-270. The Missouri State Highway Patrol. said it appears two vehicles were involved in a "rolling dispute." One car, described only as a red or maroon passenger vehicle, fired shots at another car and caused it to crash. Police don't believe any shots were fired from the car that crashed.

A 31-year-old woman inside the car was shot and killed. She was identified as Tradena Peters of Alton, Illinois. A 23-year-old woman was also hospitalized with a gunshot wound to the leg but is expected to be OK. The driver, a 32-year-old man, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries from the crash.

The victims' vehicle was seen tilted on its side along a temporary concrete barrier set up along the interstate. The other vehicle drove away from the scene.

At this time, police aren't sure if there was a relationship between the occupants of the two vehicles.

An investigation is ongoing. Any witnesses with information about the second vehicle are asked to call MSHP Troop C headquarters at 636-300-2800.

I-270 eastbound was closed for some time after the crash but has since reopened.
