Flights from Mid America Airport canceled due to suspicious laptop

Travelers stuck at Mid America Airport after their flight was halted. TSA screening showed "suspicious wires" in a laptop.

MASCOUTAH, Ill. – Three flights from Mid America Airport were canceled and two were held on the tarmac Sunday after TSA screeners discovered a carry-on laptop contained "suspicious wires". The laptop has since been ruled to be harmless.

A spokesman for the St. Clair County Sheriff's Department said a passenger was attempting to board an Allegiant Airlines flight headed for Florida when the suspicious laptop was discovered. Boarding was stopped and the laptop was taken.

The Illinois bomb squad was called in to investigate and was found to harmless.

Allegiant Airlines said the two flights held on the tarmac had more than 300 passengers between them. Three flights were canceled and two more are may be canceled. The canceled flights are to Destin, Jacksonville, and Ft Lauderdale.
