ST. LOUIS — A singer from St. Louis is now a contestant on The Voice.

Tish Haynes Keys joined Team Adam during the Blind Auditions that aired Monday.

Tish is from University City, and her friends from her choir Rapture cheered for her success during a watch party.

"To see her get to a level where she has national exposure, that's just a plus for her,” friend Jimmy Hayes said.

"Traditionally her roots are gospel. Her parents, her father was a minister. Her mother was a first lady, so she grew up in the church,” her friend Yolanda Yancie said.

Tish auditioned for the show back in June and had to keep her good news a secret until now.

"I'm on stage and I'm going back and forth and back and forth, and I'm like, Lord please let a chair just turn. I just need one. I don't care who turns,” Tish said.

Kelly Clarkson and Adam Levine turned their chairs around for her. Tish chose Team Adam because she wants to learn outside her comfort zone. Her friends were initially surprised by that decision, but they think it was a smart strategy.

"I think she has an excellent chance at winning,” Yancie said.
