Girl with autism and her family left homeless after fire

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help her family.

TROY, Ill. — A single mother of two, raising a young child with special needs lost almost everything in a house fire just two weeks before Christmas.

The fire happened Saturday morning on Gillham Street in Troy, Ill. Allison Erspamer said she was cooking when a grease fire quickly spread flames throughout her house. She ran out with her 4-year-old daughter who has autism.

Erspamer has worked at McDonald's for four and a half years to raise her two kids. She said it will be tough to recover financially because the fire has left them homeless.

“Starting over, 20 years of memories just gone. It's hard to lose everything. I just lost my grandma. The couple of things I had of hers was destroyed," said Erspamer.

Erspamer is staying with her sister right now. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help her family.
