Hallway Staple: Woman plays superstar role for O'Fallon school

Debbie Gottschalk is the ultimate utility player for Progress South Elementary in O'Fallon, Missouri.

O'FALLON, Mo. — 5 On Your Side loves to highlight people in our local schools making a real difference. Debbie Gottschalk is a copy clerk for the Fort Zumwalt District. Those at Progress South Elementary will say she's the glue that holds that school together.

"When you think of Progress South, you definitely think of Debbie Gottschalk," said Colette McGillycuddy, who works with Gottschalk.

"I like to keep busy," Gottschalk said.

Debbie Gottschalk is 5 On Your Side's latest 'Hallway Staple.' She's a person who wears many hats. She's a crossing guard, copy clerk, lunch, classroom, and playground aide, and even assist with organizing assemblies and school gatherings.

"Debbie means everything. Anything that needs to be done, she is there," said Progress South Principal Dr. Deb Yerkes.

Gottschalk has been a part of Progress South for 13 years, and it's a job she loves each and every day.

"It's a lot of fun. I totally enjoy the kids here, the staff. I love being here," Gottschalk said.
