The proposed name change for St. Louis' main airport was approved by the board of aldermen and mayor Wednesday, a press release from the St. Louis Airport Commission said.
The FAA still needs to approve the change, but the press release said formal and public use of the new name, St. Louis Lambert International Airport, is expected to begin in January.
Until them, the airport will continue to operate under the name Lambert-St. Louis International Airport.
"I am pleased to have signed the bill, officially putting 'St. Louis' first," Mayor Francis Slay said in the press release. "Leading with St. Louis explains where we are and who we are, helping us make the best case to continue to increase air traffic to our city."
