The road to recovery has been long and difficult for 27-year-old Hayley Perrin.
Her first exposure to drugs was at the tender age of 13.
She says, from there it was all downhill, eventually getting caught up in an addiction to heroin and methamphetamines.
Over the course of several years, her relationship with her family was destroyed and the trust they had for her shattered.
Her trust in other people was likewise broken as she resorted to stealing and allowing herself to be sexually exploited.
Finally, she decided rehab was her only way out of the downward spiral she was caught in.
There she realized she could live without the drugs, and it is also where she learned about Magdalene St. Louis.
The organization empowers women who suffer from abuse, addiction, and sexual exploitation through a two year program.
The program provides women with free housing, comprehensive physical and medical healthcare, and job readiness.
Perrin is just over halfway through the program and is once again attending college.
The program is based on another program started in Nashville, Tennessee where 3 out of every 4 women who make it through the first six months of the program remain drug free and pursuing education or employment 2 years later.
Perrin says, her past is behind her and she can see the opportunities her future holds opening up to her.
She also says, there is hope for those who suffer the way she has.
At the same time, Magdalene St. Louis is about to take the next step in their mission to empower women suffering from abuse, addiction, and sexual exploitation.
Their Bravery line of apparel will be unveiled Sunday at a fashion show from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Boo Cat Club on Union Boulevard.
Proceeds from the clothing and accessory line will help pay for the wages of women in the program.
The line was developed with the help of the women in the program.
They chose phrases of affirmation that mean something to them deeply.
Currently, they have several t-shirts, a tote bag, and a water bottle on display.
The items will be available to purchase Sunday at the fashion show, and then starting Monday morning on their website.
You can purchase tickets in advance for Sunday’s fashion show at the website, or at the door.
