ST. LOUIS — A man and a woman are recovering after being shot by a suspect attempting to steal a car in north St. Louis.
Around 11 p.m. Monday, a suspect shot one woman in the chest and one man in the leg during a carjacking attempt near the intersection of Anderson and Newstead in the Penrose neighborhood.
Both victims were transported to a hospital and listed in critical condition.
5 On Your Side's I-Team dug into the City of St. Louis' crime data and learned the Penrose neighborhood had seven carjackings in 2017. The area, which falls into the 'Hayden Triangle', is a high-crime hotspot targeted by new SLMPD Chief John Hayden to try and curb crime.
The suspect, who stole a Chevy Malibu, is still on the loose.
