Police standoff ends after man barricades self in car

A large police presence has responded to Brooklyn, Illinois, where a man barricaded himself inside a car at the end of a police chase.

BROOKLYN, Ill. — A police standoff in Brooklyn, Illinois ended peacefully early Thursday morning.

According to Illinois State Police, the incident started with a police pursuit in St. Louis around 8 p.m. Wednesday. The chase crossed the river and came to a stop at the intersection of Jefferson and 2nd Street when the driver barricaded himself inside the car for several hours.

Police were not sure if anyone else was inside the vehicle, so they hesitated to approach the driver. Around 12:30 a.m., police said they managed to get the driver out of the car, although they did not say what led to the man voluntarily exiting on his own.

There were no injuries. Police did not immediately share any details on the suspect.
