A woman who abandoned her newborn baby boy under a tree five years ago has been sent to prison for violating probation in the case.

Kaitlin Norton gave birth to her baby boy in secret in February 2012 and left him under a tree in frigid temperatures, wrapped in towels with his umbilical cord still attached. The child was in the cold for two hours before a woman found him and called police.

The boy survived and was placed for adoption.

Norton, who is now 25, was sentenced to five years of probation in July 2013 after she pleaded guilty to child endangerment.
