Radioactive waste on private property. That's the finding of a new survey by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources outside the contaminated West Lake Landfill in Bridgeton.
The D.N.R. says two areas on property owned by AAA Trailer Services were found with levels of Thorium higher than what’s allowed for unrestricted use by the Environmental Protection Agency.
Both those areas borders the landfill.
The Environmental Protection Agency oversees the landfill and says it's known about the contamination since at least 2008.
NewsChannel 5's Grant Bissell explains why the site was never cleaned up.
