A car involved in multiple car entries and break-ins in the Metro East fled the scene of a theft that left a visiting wrestling team without their equipment and electronics last week.

A Collinsville police officer was flagged down by a wrestling coach on the parking lot of an Applebee's on N. Bluff Road Friday afternoon and was told the team's property was stolen from inside the team's van. Officers spotted the vehicle the coach described and gave chase, but it got away,

The victims told police seven equipment bags, two cell phones and one tablet were taken from the car.

Officers said the suspect vehicle — a red Jeep Grand Cherokee — was seen on security footage in the area of many car entries in the past few months. Police said the car's front license plate is never seen, and they believe the rear license plate is stolen.

While some of the cars in these cases were unlocked, others were entered with the use of force.

Anyone with information in the cases involving this car is asked to call Lieutenant Charles Mackin at 618-344-2131, ext. 5130 or Crimestoppers at 866-371-8477.
