ST. LOUIS — Schnucks representatives said they will, in the coming days, meet with the couple at the center of a viral Facebook video that alleged racial discrimination at a south St. Louis store.

"This is definitely hard to watch,” Kellen Hill said, playing back the video that’s been viewed more than one million times.

He recorded the video of his girlfriend crying because a Schnucks employee wouldn’t sell her a money order, even though the company said she followed store policy.

"I'm getting emotional just thinking about it,” Samantha Perry said.

She said that store employee called the police on her because she was asking questions and making a scene.

"I thought that I was going to get arrested. My mind just went to a very negative place, a place I've never gone before,” she said.

Schnucks said they had an issue with fraud when it comes to money orders. They said licenses from Florida are most frequently used in fraud cases, and Hill has a Florida ID because he and Perry just move to St. Louis from Miami.

They asked him to return with cash instead of his debit card. When he and Perry did, the company said it shouldn't have been a problem.

Schnucks apologized and fired the employee, but this couple said that's not enough.

"We're here for change. That's what we're out for. We want to make sure change happens. We don’t want this to happen to anybody else,” Hill said.

Schnucks said they are open to talking with the couple about what happened. The company said it began implementing diversity, equity and inclusion training last year.
