You'll hear Salvation Army bells tolling at Schnucks stores across the St. Louis metro area this holiday season after all.
Schnucks announced Thursday it has granted an exception to its no solicitation policy to allow the bell ringers and red kettles to be stationed outside its stores.
The no solicitation policy was announced in August, with the grocery chain explaining that instead of allowing nonprofit organizations to solicit outside its stores, it would allow them to raise funds through the My Schnucks Card program.
Our solicitation policy was reset earlier this year in response to customer feedback, but there was strong and unique community reaction to the impact it would have on The Salvation Army in particular. We listened," said Todd Schnuck, chairman and CEO of Schnuck Markets.
The Salvation Army will begin its holiday red kettle program on November 18.
Schnucks says it is working with other charitable partners to implement new and creative options for customer contributions.
