Senator Roy Blunt retained his Senate seat early Wednesday morning with a win over challenger Jason Kander.

The race was expected to be one of the most watched races nationally as the Democrats tried to flip the Senate, but just before Kander conceded to Blunt, it was reported that the Republicans would keep control.

A Monmouth poll released on Nov. 1 showed Blunt holding a statistically meaningless 1-point lead, down from a 5-point lead Blunt held in August.

Both candidates used large monetary support from national interests trying to swing the senate one way or the other. According to a USA Today report, the candidates did not even account for half of the spending in the race.
